The latest flagship device from Samsung, The Samsung Galaxy S8 has been one of the most awaited devices after the ‘Note 7’ fiasco. It is the first phone revealed with the all new Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 which is considered as a beast right now. All the leaks made by various sources were indeed true and Samsung has finally decided to reveal the device. Is the Samsung Galaxy S8 worth buying at what is estimated to be around 55k after the blunder made by Samsung last year? Let’s find out:
The Samsung Galaxy S8 features an almost bezel less look and a very sleek design with no physical buttons at the bottom of the screen. The S8 is thin, and incredibly light at 155g, but it feels sturdy and precisely made. It's IP68 water- and dust-resistant, so it's good for 30 minutes to depths of 1.5 meters. Though Samsung had plans to place the fingerprint sensor below the screen which was not possible yet and finally placed it on the back of the device right beside the camera. The Edges of the device are nicely curved and provide a proper grip of the phone with its stunning back. The device also features a dedicated button for the all new device assistant ‘Bixby’. The Samsung Galaxy S8 will be available in three colors: Orchid Gray, Midnight Black and Arctic Silver after Samsung decided to ditch the hyper reflective gold and silver colors. All the colors give the device a premium look and make the device one of the best looking devices ever made. This high end Smartphone by Samsung has surely beaten the likes of Apple and Google when it comes to looks and would be one of the major reasons for the sales of this device.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 comes with a 5.8 inch Super Amoled Display in the size of a device which would have 5.2 inch display; this was possible with incredible engineering work by removing the bezel and the physical buttons below the screen. This 5.8 inch display has an odd resolution of 1440 x 2960 which is approximately 570 ppi pixel density. The aspect ratio of this display is odd as well with 18:5:9. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 which is super reliable and keeps the screen safe from physical damage. The huge display with a great resolution in an almost bezel less phone gives the device an immersive feel when watching high resolution content on it. The visibility from edges and the display in outdoor environment under direct sunlight is pretty impressive as well.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 packs the all new Octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 which is a beast of a processor although only in the US models. The Europe, Middle East and Asia models of this device however pack the Exynos 8895 Octa which is a pretty decent processor as well. Either way, the device works quite fast and is very snappy in terms of daily use with no lag whatsoever. The device comes with 4 GB of ram instead of the trendy 6 GB ram in today’s generation of high end devices. It has an internal storage of 64 GB and an expandable storage of 256 GB through micro SD card. It also features the Adreno 540 GPU which great for playing games and high resolution content. This device features a non-removable 3000 mah battery which is considered to be quite small considering this device has a 5.8inch display and a high resolution. The battery is expected to last for 11 hours with 3G/LTE usage and 14 hours with Wi-Fi Usage at moderate level.
This device features the Android Nougat 7.0 OS with Samsung’s own customization over it called as Touchwiz and also includes Samsung’s security system ‘KNOX’. Samsung tends to change every app by Google in the stock android firmware with Samsung’s own version of it. The Bixby voice assistant is pretty neat and features with a separate section for cards customized to the user’s interests and needs and includes news from different sections as well. The device is considered to be a beast when it comes to playing high end gaming and high resolution content and completes all the needs of the user seamlessly. The Exynos 8895 chipset scores an impressive 174,155 points as compared to the 162,101 points logged by the Snapdragon Chipset.
It has a rear camera of 12 Mega Pixel with phase detection autofocus and LED flash and an f/1.7 aperture. This camera features the dual pixel sensor and bright sensor which helps the device to focus quite fast and gives crisp and vivid pictures. The device also supports 4K video recording. The camera application in the device gives an option of Pro-mode; it gives you the option to adjust any of the six settings: ISO, Shutter Speed, Exposure, Color Tone, Manual Focus and White Balance. The Front camera is 8 Mega Pixel with Smart Auto Focus technology which focuses on the faces in the picture giving clear and detailed pictures. It also gives the option of stickers to be synchronized with faces which is similar feature to the Lenses technology by famous application Snapchat.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 is the first device to be launched with Bluetooth 5.0 which has twice the speed and four times the range of Bluetooth 4.2 which released back in December 2014. This would enable streaming of audio over Bluetooth headphones seamlessly. It is also 4G VoLTE enabled and would work with all Major Network Bands. The device has USB 3.1 Type C reversible cable which is one of the fastest cables and speeds up the transfer of files between devices. This device also has NFC technology and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac. The Wi-Fi reception and network stability is top notch on this device.
The phone with rich high resolution and immersive display gives a great experience of watching videos and playing games on this device. The headphone output of this device is decent however the Bluetooth headphones work flawless with this device due to the new 5.0 technology. The speaker however is a disappointment as it features a mono speaker as compared to the iPhone 7 which has stereo speakers. The speaker output is not impressive and is not a great feature of the phone. The Camera gives various options to the users for customization of the pictures.
This High end flagship device by Samsung is one of their best and is expected to be a hit in the market despite the competition. The Premium bezel less look and feel and feature filled device would tend to attract customers very easily. Despite of its flaws such as placement of fingerprint scanner, decent battery and the lack of good speakers, Suggestto gives this device big thumbs up and suggests consumers to buy the device if they can afford it because it’s worth the price.
