Nokia which was founded in the year 1865 is a 152-year-old Finnish electronics company. In November 1992 Nokia launched its first GSM mobile phone and since then it has been ruling the telecom industry and until the arrival of smartphones. Nokia was known for its extremely strong build quality and the brand was quite famous for being extremely durable. Nokia released a bunch of Symbian phones and Lumia phones in collaboration with Microsoft, but could not get the response as much as they used to get prior to the arrival of Smartphones. In January 2017, Nokia announced that it would also start making Android-based smartphones. In the month of August 2017, Nokia launched its smartphone called Nokia 6. This Smartphone is available in 3GB Ram and 32GB internal storage variant in India. And it is priced at Rs. 15000. Will the Nokia be able to regain its fan following?

Looks & Design

One of the highlights of the Nokia phones was that they used to be very durable and the build quality used to be very good. This thing hasn't changed with Nokia 6 as well. Nokia 6 feels very durable and very good; it has a metallic body, so it feels strong. The device has 5.5 full HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen on the front face. Along with the display, it also has the secondary camera, proximity sensor and ear piece at the top. The device also has a fingerprint sensor and capacitive buttons below the screen. The device has a 3.5 jack the top.  The volume buttons and power button was placed on the right side of the device whereas the SIM tray is placed on the left of the device. The micro USB charging port and speakers are placed at the bottom of the device. The looks and design of the phone can be rated at 9/10.

Display & Resolution

The display on the Nokia 6 is a 5.5 inch full HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen produces up to 16 M colours. The resolution on the devices 1080 X 1920 which pixels and it has a pixel density of 443 pixels per inch. So, the colour production, colour saturation, picture production would be good. The device also has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, so the device is resistant to scratches and more durable. The auto brightness sensor of the device is good for outdoor conditions but it does not automatically adjust that well for indoor conditions.

The device runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset; which is an Octa Core processor. The device also has Adreno 505 GPU. This Smartphone is available in 3GB Ram and 32GB internal storage variant in India. The storage of the device can be increased up to 256 GB by installing a micro SD card but the micro SD card uses sim 2 slot, as the device does not have a dedicated micro SD slot. So the user would either have to compromise at the storage or second SIM. The device also comes with Android Nougat (7.1.1) which was the latest android version at the time of release. The device does a very good job in terms of handling heavy apps. The device does not handle heavy games that easily. There are minor noticeable lags in the device & the RAM management could have been better.  The fingerprint sensor is also accurate.

The device comes with a non-removable Li-ion 3000 mAh battery, which is quite standard in this segment. The battery easily lasts close to one day on a moderate usage and gifts you a screen on time of 5 to 6 hours. According to Nokia, the device supports fast charging which is an added advantage for the user. The performance of the device can be rated at 8/10 and the battery of the device can be rated at 8.5/10.

Camera

Nokia 6 features a 16 megapixel primary camera with f/2.0 aperture. The primary camera also has a dual tone LED flash. The device has phase detection autofocus, so the user would not struggle to focus the camera. The primary camera can record videos only at full HD and not at 4K resolution. This is a drawback as most of the device these days feature 4K resolution recording. The secondary camera of the device is an 8 megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture. The front camera of the device can also record video at full HD. One of the Unique things about the front camera is that comes with autofocus which is difficult to find in this price range. So, the focusing from the front camera would not be difficult. The picture quality, the colour production, colour saturation of the primary as well as secondary camera is very good. The video recording from the primary camera can be a little bit shaky as the device does not feature optical image stabilization nor does it feature electronic image stabilization.

Network & Connectivity

Nokia 6 is a dual SIM device which supports 4G and requires Nano SIMs to be installed. The device has Bluetooth, NFC, FM radio and USB on the go as connectivity. The FM radio requires headphone to be connected in order it to work. The user can also connect flash drives and other USB accessories, thanks to USB on the go.

Multimedia

Nokia 6 comes with stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos sound enhancement. So, the audio quality of the device from the speakers as well as the headphone jack is very good. But, the speakers could have been louder. Watching movies, listening to music is a very good experience because of the Dolby Atmos sound enhancement. The device has an inbuilt photo and video viewer. The device also has an inbuilt document viewer. The multimedia of the device can be rated at 9/10.

Verdict

Nokia 6 can turn out to be one of the most durable devices and this price segment, thanks to its build quality. Nokia phones were known for having excellent build quality and Nokia has not broken that trust. But apart from build quality and camera, a lot of things need improvement on the device.
