Back Story

The trailers are fantastic – they speak of a love story where it’s the guy falling in love with Bindu. Bindu a mysterious girl next door

Every girl has a million followers, and every boy has his special Bindu, a girl he will always be in love with. The story offers a fresh new world perspective into friendship, love, romance, relationship and marriage. Not all friendships turn out to be great love stories, and not all love stories end up in marriage. And when the dust has settled, the romance might still be alive. That is Meri Pyaari Bindu for you.

Ayushmann Khurrana as Abhimanyu Roy is convincing as the boy next door who follows his heart and its darling to the world’s corner. He is also the modern Devdas, who when hurt holds his head high, keeps his ego and gets on with his life, not knowing fully how he will move on, but he gets on nonetheless.

Parineeti Chopra as Bindu is sweet and plays her part well too, except as a viewer I thought she wasn’t very comfortable with the mushy scenes.

The movie’s background score is light, the movie's songs are recreated 70s/80s hits and they are amazing. Originals like “Maana Ke Hum Yaar Nahi”, “Haareya”, “Afeemi” compliment the film, the emotions and are already being hummed across the country. Also, doing the rounds on various hit charts.

Editing & Direction

This is Akshay Roy’s first film as a director. This as his debut film and the way he has dealt with the subject definitely needs to be lauded. Akshay Roy has taken a drab topic and made it come to life. The editing is seamless and moves quickly without a dull moment and not a frame more, not a frame less.

Writing & Screenplay

Suprotim Sengupta the writer of the film envisioned a world where Devdas wouldn’t drink himself silly, he envisioned a Devdas who is head over heels in love with a girl but is also proud to let her be. A fresh story of relationships and what we must do when they fail. Suicide, depression, anger, alcohol aren’t the ways to deal with it, moving on is. Screenplay is great, full of color, gloss and nostalgia. Dialogs are well written, proposals out of the box and heartbreak – real.

Final Verdict

If you want to watch a film full of good songs, good acting, good story, good direction, then this is the film to lighten you mood for some time. Spoiler Alert: it is not the regular feel-good, everything’s romantic film, the film showcases more real world relationships and situations. A good film offering a new way to look at things. Change the way you look at moving on and ending relationships. Not all end in fire, some sail through turbulent waters and then find the shore.
